Conserve Water and Save Money
- Fix leaking faucets, toilets and showerheads
- Run the dishwasher and washing machine with full loads
- Don’t let the water run for vegetable and dish washing
- Don’t let the water run while you shave or brush your teeth
- Use a broom to clean driveways, walks and patios
- Take showers rather than baths and keep showers short
- Don’t use the toilet as a trash can
- Water the lawn early in the morning or in the evening to avoid evaporation
- Keep grass at least two inches high to shade roots
- Aerating the lawn regularly, and use mulch to reduce evaporation
- Plant native or drought-resistant grass and plants to reduce watering needs
- Water trees slowly, deeply, and not very often.
- Keep a bottle of water in the refrigerator for drinking, try not to run faucet for cold water.
- Install aerators on bathroom and kitchen faucets
- Install low-flow toilet (1.6 gallon per flush)
- Install low-flow showerheads
- Insulate your water heater and pipes
