Conserve Water and Save Money

  • Fix leaking faucets, toilets and showerheads
  • Run the dishwasher and washing machine with full loads
  • Don’t let the water run for vegetable and dish washing
  • Don’t let the water run while you shave or brush your teeth
  • Use a broom to clean driveways, walks and patios
  • Take showers rather than baths and keep showers short
  • Don’t use the toilet as a trash can
  • Water the lawn early in the morning or in the evening to avoid evaporation
  • Keep grass at least two inches high to shade roots
  • Aerating the lawn regularly, and use mulch to reduce evaporation
  • Plant native or drought-resistant grass and plants to reduce watering needs
  • Water trees slowly, deeply, and not very often.
  • Keep a bottle of water in the refrigerator for drinking, try not to run faucet for cold water.
  • Install aerators on bathroom and kitchen faucets
  • Install low-flow toilet (1.6 gallon per flush)
  • Install low-flow showerheads
  • Insulate your water heater and pipes
