Stay Safe During Extreme Heat
County Executive Neuhaus Announces Cooling Centers Available Countywide

Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus is reminding residents that cooling centers are available countywide as temperatures continue to rise. To help protect the community during periods of extreme heat, the County has activated a network of public, air‑conditioned facilities, including libraries, community centers, and senior centers, where residents can safely cool off. These centers are open to all Orange County residents, with a focus on supporting older adults, individuals with health conditions, and anyone without access to adequate cooling at home.

“With the high temperatures and dangerous heat indexes that are forecasted, I am urging residents to look out for one another and take precautions, including utilizing our local cooling centers, if necessary,” said Neuhaus. “It’s essential to spread the word to those who may need help. Please share this information, check on your neighbors, especially the elderly, and stay hydrated and safe.”

Residents are encouraged to:

  • Stay indoors during peak heat hours (11:00 a.m.– 4:00 p.m.)
  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day
  • Avoid strenuous outdoor activity
  • Never leave children or pets in vehicles

Residents should call ahead to confirm hours before visiting a cooling center.
