NOTICE OF ADOPTION

 

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that on the 11th day of August, 2025, the Town Board of the Town of Newburgh in the County of Orange, State of New York, adopted Local Law No. 6 of 2025 entitled "A Local Law Amending Chapter 104 Entitled ‘Schedule of Fees’ of the Code of the Town of Newburgh: Impoundment Fees, Adoption Fees and Rabies Vaccination Fees for Dogs and Cats Effective September 1, 2025” the effect of which is to amend the provisions of the Municipal Code’s Schedule of Fees Chapter to increase the fees for impoundments, adoptions and rabies vaccinations effective September 1, 2025.  The fees for the first impoundment of any dog are increased to $50 for the first 24 hours or part thereof and $30 for each additional 24 hours or part thereof, plus costs, for the first impoundment of any dog; for the second impoundment of any dog owned by that person within one year of the first impoundment the fees are increased to $60 for the first 24 hours or part thereof and $30 for each additional 24 hours or part thereof  plus costs; for the third impoundment of any dog owned by that person within one year of the first impoundment the fees are increased to $85 for the first 24 hours or part thereof and $30 for each additional 24 hours or part thereof plus costs;  for the fourth and subsequent impoundments of any dog owned by that person within one year of the first impoundment the fees are increased to $110 for the first 24 hours or part thereof and $30 for each additional 24 hours or part thereof plus costs.  The fees for adoptions are also increased as follows:  (1) for any cat other than a kitten: $125; (2) for any kitten: $150; (3) for any puppy: $200; and (3) for any dog other than a puppy except for a senior  dog adopted by a person 65 years of age or older:  $150; with the fee remaining at $0 for any senior dog adopted by a person 65 years of age or older.  The fee for a rabies vaccination for any dog redeemed by the owner is increased to $40. 

 

The adoption of the Local Law was determined by the Town Board to be a Type II Action under the State Environmental Quality Review Act regulations and therefore requires no further environmental review.  

A public hearing on the adoption of this Local Law was held on the 11th day of August, 2025, during which the public had the opportunity to provide comments on behalf or in opposition of the proposed Local Law and any part thereof.  The Town Board has determined it is in the best interest of the Town to adopt this Local Law.
